We have three vintage pieces from this collectible Holt Howard pattern which all came out of the same older home. We are saleing each piece separately in case someone needs just one of them. If you purchase more than one, we would be pleased to ship them together to save you money on postage BUT you must not pay for each separately or pay for any prior to our issuing you a combined invoice. Please e-mail to let us know you are pursuing more than one piece and which ones, and we will issue a combined invoice at the close of the last sale you win.
All items are from the Holt Howard Pixieware line, made in 1958, and all base pieces are stamped on their underside bases with "1958, Holt Howard" (the lids are not marked). One piece also still has attached on the underside base the original silver and black label which states "Japan" with an "H" both above and below this, so we know all pieces were made in Japan in the 1950's.
This sale is for the Jam 'n Jelly condiment jar with its corresponding pixie girl lid which is actually a combination lid with spoon. We are also saleing separately the Lil' Sugar with its combination lid with spoon and the matching Cream Crock for this Sugar & Creamer set.
The Jam 'n Jelly stands about 5 3/16 inches in height with the lid, and has a greatest width/depth of about 3 7/8 inches. This piece is ceramic or pottery (not china or porcelain). The base condiment bowl or jar is round, with a curved angled top edge/rim, then cinches in before bowing outward then slanting downward for the lower half to a smaller base which has a diameter of about 1 1/2 inches. The combo lid/spoon has a total length of about 4 1/2 inches and fits nicely into the condiment base. Together the condiment jar and lid/spoon weigh about 7.4 ounces.
The condiment base is a cream white color with light pink vertical stripes and the words "Jam 'n Jelly" in black on one side. The pixie has blond or yellow hair with orange line highlights, is smiling, and has a circular raised button nose. The pixie head has a beige/skin tone face and neck with rosy cheeks, with the flat lid portion and spoon in the cream white coloring.
All of these older pieces were used and enjoyed and show a lot of wear; they are not mint. Sometimes the camera flash can hide some of the flaws, so among the 12 images here we have included one shot without the camera light....this appears darker but can help in viewing some of the condition. Please use the zoom feature for further detail.
The condiment base part and lid/spoon have all-over fine crazing, having both long and short fine crazing lines. On the base, and on the flat topside portion of the lid, there is a a lot of light brown coloring along many of the crazing lines (and behind them), making this look like it has light brown streaking. There are also some crazing lines that just appear darker or browner than others on both pieces, including some noticeable dark crazing lines on the pixie's face. The Jam 'n Jelly name in black is clear and strong, but has some wear with the lower curved portion of the "J" in "Jam" missing, some wear on the "n" in " 'n ", as well as a touch of wear on the "y" in Jelly".The base has no chips, with the spoon having the very tiniest flake/chip on the rim tip edge of the spoon (perhaps 1/32 inch in width). There are some pit/pit dots/dark dots in the pottery, touches of wear to the pink stripes in spots but not bad, perhaps some surface scratches (although we don't notice any) and other general wear. The lid/spoon is solid and has not been broken or repaired.
Still would have a terrific eye-catching look on display, and perhaps you are just missing one part of this to complete a set you already own.
