Vintage Marked Wyeth Hardware Co St Joseph MO Double Loop Holster & Money Belt
Here is a beautiful light brown holster with a rare and very collectible maker mark, Wyeth Hardware Co. St Joseph MO. This beautiful holster is made with oak tan skirting leather and is 11 1/2 inches long and 6 inches wide. It features a plain skirt with 2 integral loops and has maker mark, Wyeth Hardware Co. St Joseph MO. It is also marked 948 and 7 1/2. The body of the holster has a beautiful border design and 3 rosettes. The holster has a closed toe and a recurved throat. The main seam is stitched through the toe and is riveted at top. This Wyeth holster is in very fine condition and I would date it to the early 1900s. There is one small 1/8 inch hole punched through the back, but other than that, there are no rips or tears. A near perfect example of an early holster, that was made for a Colt Single Action Revolver with a 7 1/2 inch barrel or similar model.
The money belt is made of medium tan soft skirting leather. It has 25 cartridge slots for a 45 caliber bullet or slug. The belt is made the old school way and favored way by taking one piece of leather, folding it over and sewing one edge only. The money belt is 46 inches long from belt buckle to tip of belt. It is 37 inches long from buckle to middle hole of belt. The belt has a roller buckle that is 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide. This money belt is in very fine condition. The buckle has been moved a couple of inches.
Wyeth Hardware Company was established in 1860 as a hardware and saddle factory. Being that St Joseph Missouri was a starting off spot for wagons heading west, Wyeth was in the right spot to sell items the travelers would need and they were quite prosperous. The owners William and Eliza Wyeth, built a 43 room mansion in St Joseph Missouri in 1879. The mansion is a museum now. They were also known for making mochilas for the Pony Express Eastern Divisions. The Wyeth's 196th catalog was put out in the 1930s.
