Fine Antique, Connoisseur quality, BIG, HEAVY, MINT! hand forged Iron, double mounted & intricately silver inlaid engraved Custom made American Eagle Heel band Charro investment spurs, with extremely fine silver inlays & engraving done by the hand of a Maestro's artisan-ship. These spurs are painstakingly inlaid with dozens and dozens of hand chiseled inlays; then, meticulously inlaid with silver and hand engraved. It must have taken weeks to create a pair of spurs such as this. The fine detail is as good as it gets on this type of spur; and only a wealthy gentleman would have been able to commission such a BIG and ornately inlaid pair of custom made show spurs. These spurs are completely hand made, using only the simplest of hand tools; i.e., hand forged, hand filed, hand chiseled, hand drilled & hand silver inlaid and hand silver engraved. These spurs are BIG and HEAVY, weighing 3 pounds 7.2 ounces! The inside measurement of the heel bands at the open end is about 3 5/16", and will fit a large Man's sized boot. The spurs measure 6 7/8" long overall, with heavy, 3/8" thick heel bands that are 1 9/16" tall and domed on the outside curvature. It is very difficult to chisel inlay a curved surface; especially in such minute detail. The entire outside heel bands, including the rounded ends, have a fine, wide border decoration in an Aztec pattern (or Greek Key motif); each individual panel is hand chiseled, silver inlaid, hand stipple (textured) engraved; and then sculptured with another engraving tool for contrast. There must be dozens and dozens of these individual rectangular inlays; all interconnected with a fine silver inlaid and zig zag engraved pattern. There is also a very thin, finely silver inlaid and zig zag engraved border both above and below the Aztec pattern. The outside heel bands are have a center panel with a very unusual American Eagle inlaid pattern; and I have never seen this fine American Eagle motif on any other pair of spurs. This Eagle is unlike the Mexican National Eagle, that would have been depicted with a snake in it's mouth, and resting on a cactus plant. This Eagle is an American Federal style Eagle; very similar to the Eagle found on scrimshawed American Eagle poker chips, with the upturned wings and the claws clutching arrows and an olive branch. It is apparent that these spurs were custom made for a Norte Americano gentleman. The engraver used a variety of very fine line engraving, "feathered" (extremely fine line engraving), and stippled (textured) engraving for contrast on the Eagle. The center Eagle panel is surrounded by a grape and leaf motif, with the leaves silver inlaid, stippled engraved, and then sculptured into a 3 dimensional design. The grapes clusters are silver inlaid and punch dot decorated. Both the leaves and grapes are connected with thin silver inlays that are zig zag engraved. The unique feature of these spurs is that the American Eagle is upside down. It appears the holes in the heel band for the swingers were the last process of completing the spurs; and the worker drilled the holes on the wrong edge of the heel band; i.e., he mistakenly drilled the slot for the swingers on the bottom edge of the heel band instead of the top edge. With the spur already silver inlaid & engraved, the Maker simply assembled the spurs. The inside heel bands are intricately chiseled, silver inlaid, engraved, en suite with the outside heel bands. The patterns and fine craftsmanship are very similar, except that the inside heel bands have a silver inlaid & engraved panel instead of the American Eagle design. This two pattern, double silver mounting found on custom made spurs, allows the wearer to simply change the spur straps to have either side of the heel bands worn toward the outside; i.e., two different spur designs in one pair of spurs. The unusual outside buttons are hand forged, about 1 1/2" in diameter, and domed in the shape of a flower with 10 (not 8) individual pie shaped silver inlays. This flower design is bigger and different than other flower pattern buttons. Each of the 10 individual petals have line engraving & feather engraving. The outside button flowers have a 3/8" bullet shaped center, en suite with the outside rowel pin bullet design. The 1 1/8" diameter inside domed buttons are silver inlaid and hand engraved in 6 pie shaped sections, each with fine line engraving and a zig zag engraved border. All 4 Iron button swingers are identical, have matching aged patina to the spurs, and are original, as are all 4 silver inlaid & engraved buttons. Both the outside and inside shanks are shaped in a variation of the traditional figure 8 design; i.e., a "triple 8" motif. Both the inside and outside shanks are silver inlaid and finely hand engraved with fine zig zag engraving on both the inside and outside borders. The outside shanks also have numerous finely punch dot decoration with larger punch dot decoration in a scroll pattern. The inside shanks also have numerous finely punch dot decoration in a different scroll pattern. Both the tops and bottoms of the shanks have 2 silver inlaid stripes that are zig zag engraved; meaning there are a total of 16 individual silver inlaid & engraved panels just on the tops and bottoms of the shanks. Both hand forged 8 tined rowels are 4 sided Amozoc style; each with a silver inlaid and zig zag engraved panel that is punch dot decorated; i.e., a total of 64 engraved silver inlays, just on the rowels. The tines taper very slightly from center towards the ends. The rowels on these spurs are also BIG; 3 1/2" in diameter, with bullet shaped rowel pins on the outside. High end spur makers knew how to make the rowels chime when spun; and these spurs have a nice chiming sound. Of the hundreds of silver inlays on these connoisseur quality spurs, all of the silver intact, with just one tiny 3/16" sliver of silver missing on the end of one rowel tine on the inside of the spur. Because of the patina of the Iron and darkened silver, I didn't even find it until I went over the spurs with a magnifying glass; and this is not distracting as it on the inside, non display side. These extremely detailed quality investment spurs are in Mint condition, with no apparent wear. You will see 100 pairs of spurs before you will see a pair like this that is in 100% original, mint, untouched condition. The entire spurs have almost all of the original charcoal bluing, with the blue mixed in with the blue that turns to brown from the moisture in the hands from handling them over decades. This patina is a combination of deep, dark Charcoal blue and gun metal browning, as is found on firearms. Even the insides of the heel bands have almost all of the original charcoal bluing! These spurs have an even, light aged patina overall to the silver inlays that is untouched, that collectors love to see, and greatly increases the value for an item that is in untouched, uncleaned, 100% original condition. I prefer to leave items intact, as found, in untouched condition. Complete with BIG, thick, fine, fancy, super wide (2 3/8") over-sized calf skin leather lined pitiado (cactus fiber) embroidered spur straps with nickle plated roller buckles & leather keepers. The embroidered 3 dimensional design features a leaf center panel and the Aztec motif, en suite with the heel bands. These fancy, heavy, unbelievably fine conditioned BIG double silver inlaid and engraved Investment grade spurs come from Amozoc, the spur capital South of the Border, down Old Mexico way. This is as good as it gets for this style spur. These spurs would fit into any spur collection, Equestrian, Cowboy, Cowgirl, Vaquero, Charro, Charita, Mexican, Old West, Western, Wild West, South of the Border, or Western Americana display or Investment & ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER, e-CHECKS & ALL MAJOR CREDIT & DEBIT CARDS THROUGH PAY PAL.
