EXCEPTIONALLY NICEKELLY BROS 1 PIECE HANDFORGED 90% FINE SILVER DOUBLE MOUNTED SPURS & STRAPS CIRCA 1920. PM Kelly and his brothers resumed their partnership in 1919 in Dalhart, TX after the departure of Clyde Parker their former partner. Kelly had developed a loyal following on the ranch and rodeo circuit for producing fine bits and spurs forover 15years.Kelly knew what the cowboy trade wanted and he produced the products accordingly...hand built to last a lifetime. These all original, double mounted sweet iron spurs are 6 1/2" in overall length with a 3 1/4" depth and a 3 1/8" heel band spread at the boot entry point. The heel band is 7/8" with swinging strap buttons, a 2 1/2" downturned, chap guarded shank and a 12 point rowel that is 2" in diameter. The silver mounting is based on spur styles20& 72shown in the Kelly catalog #20 on pages 19 & 21 respectively. The adornments include hand engraved fine silver overlays consisting of a heel band scroll anddiamond, rowel pin covers, shank bars, and heart and round swinging strap buttons. The strong and pliableolder batwing straps are 7-8 oz border stitched bridle leather with nickel hardware. The familiar beveled Kelly Bros mark is lightly struck on the scroll side of the heel band below the strap button. These spurs have been well used but are in remarkably nice condition without damage, modification or repair. They are scarcein the double mounted version and only rarely become available.They would be a welcome and treasured addition to any collection and would "Cowboy up" for current use if one is so inclined.
