A Pair of Antique Silver Decorated Huaso / Gaucho Spurs from Chile
These spurs probably date from the early 20th Century and are in good condition for their age.The spurs have very large many pointed rowels which still turn freely. A few spokes of the rowels have slightly bent tips where they have dragged on the ground.
They are made of steel or iron . They are decorated with geometric silver inlay and engraved silver on the heel bands. The silver is folded back on one of the ends of the heel bands.
These were actually worn and there are scratches and dents from wear.
The necks are downward pointing and have pierced decoration.
There are small round plates between the necks and heel bands, both of these are bent.
One of the spurs has a decorative beaded end on the pin that holds the rowel - this has been lost on the other spur.
There are no maker's marks or stamps
Dimensions : Total length 13" (33.5 cm), Width inside heel3" (7.8cm) , Rowel 7¾" (19.7cm)
Weight of the pair 5lb 13oz (2.64kg)
