Hundreds of Original David Roberts Lithographs
Offered is an intermediate, 35-year old compilation of premier engravings, lithographs, maps, books, and watercolors, specializing in the Middle East, the Greco-Roman, Ottoman and Pre-Columbian worlds. There is also a nice selection of documents and illuminated manuscript pages. Many of these pieces are framed and matted. Ideal for the advanced dealer or collector. The Middle Eastern collection is worthy of any foundation, institution or embassy.
As North America’s specialist in the original lithographs of David Roberts, there are over 500 of these choice lithographs in the inventory being offered. Hundreds of antiquarian engravings by Sir William Hamilton, G. B. Piranesi, Laborde, Prisse d’Avennes, Frederick Catherwood, G. B. Belzoni, Bernardino Drovetti, W. H. Bartlett, Thomas Allom, etc. The maps reflect the Mediterranean sphere of influence, and the Middle East from such cartographers as Mercator, Ortelius, Hondius, Mallet, Munster, etc. The antiquarian book collection is represented by a number of steel plate books. A small reference collection of books is included in the price.

The Roberts collection comprises:
Over 500 hand-colored and tinted David Roberts, R.A. lithographs from the Standard Folio (First) Edition, and a small selection of Roberts lithographs from the Royal Subscription Edition. Many are matted, and a number are museum quality framed. Among which are:
•Set of eight, large hand-colored lithographs representing the vistas of Jerusalem by Roberts.
•A rare, oil painting on wood panel, of Trinity Chapel of Canterbury Cathedral, by the renowned, mid-19th Century Scottish travel-artist.
•A watercolor of the Vatican from the Southeast, also by David Roberts.
•A partial set of lithographs from Roberts Picturesque Sketches in Spain taken during the Years 1832 and 1833.
•The rare book, The Life of David Roberts by James Ballantine (1866).
•Dozens of antiquarian maps and views dating from the 16th-19th Centuries.
•A number of illuminated manuscript pages (on vellum) from France and Germany dating from the 13th-16th Centuries, a number of these are museum quality framed.
•A number of fine, 19th-20th Century watercolors of Egypt and of Constantinople.
