A scarce internally clean First Edition of Rose Pender's Wild West memoirs.
Very rare. Last seen at sale in 1999. Needs some work to the original binding but very good and clean internally.
Bound in cloth with gilt lettering and stamped decorative borders.
"So many years have elapsed since I wrote the little history of our trip through the Wild West, I feel I must explain the changes that have taken place between 1883 and 1888. These changes would appear marvelous did we not know how rapidly things alter, disappear and improve in America" - Preface.
Bears S.F. Widdrington's bookplate on the front pastedown. Shallcross Fitzherbert Jacson was the nephew of Samuel Edward Widdrington, b.1826, the writer on Spain. He succeeded to the Newton Hall estate and Widdrington name in 1856.
Direct from the library at Newton Hall, the 18th century country house and estate in Northumberland England, with a pencil shelfmark to the front free-endpaper.
CONDITION
The binding is generally tight and firm. The rear inner hinge is slightly strained. There is wear to the extremities, including bumping and rubbing, with loss to the board and cloth to the spine and rear board.Internally thepages are bright and clean. There is a section missing from one corner of the bookplate. Overall the condition is good only, with a near fine interior.
