Volume 43, Nov/Dec 2006 Issue

Chucky, Editor-in-ChiefNot only is this our Christmas issue, it is the first time we have combined both SASS’s Winter Range and End Of Trail into one issue. We have added 16 pages of color to this issue to cover these two premium shooting events, which makes this issue a total of 136 pages! It is our biggest issue ever!

The holiday season, Christmas for me, is a time to rejoice, a time of happiness, and a time for family. It is also a time of remembrance for those who are no longer with us. I am sure most of us know at least one or more shooters, or someone in their family, who has passed on this last year. I also want to take this moment to be thankful for the opportunity to know these people and be gracious of the love and friendships that have come to me through the simple act of participating in Western-action shooting. There are many among us that are going through sickness or have family or friends that are in such situations. I know I have come into contact with some of the best people there are in this world by participating in these various shooting sports and they have brought me a better appreciation of others, and have helped fulfill my life. Each year, someone I know passes on. Some have affected me more than others due to their closeness or the relationship. I thank each for being involved in what I do and letting me share a portion of my life with them. There is sadness in their passing but there is also joy in what they have given us. I can embrace their passing and move on knowing what they have given me makes me stronger and even more able to continue on. Each person has left something good behind.

There are many of us that not only have numerous friends among the shooting community but seem to make new friends at every shoot we go to, I sure do. Having these friends has given me encouragement to do what I do as well as enriching my life. There are so many fantastic things about this great family of shootists and Old West enthusiasts we are part of. You know what I mean; I don’t have to list them. This makes the work I do not just a job, but a pleasure. It’s a joy to be shooting and writing and I hope that our magazines, books, and participation are having a positive affect on the future of the shooting sports.

Western-action shooting is much more than just going shooting. It is a permanent and integral part of who we are and what we do. Thank you, each and every one of you, for making what I do so much fun.

Now, get out there! Take this big issue and read not only the articles but look at all of the products there are to buy your loved one for Christmas or drop them a hint about what you would like. Hmm, an opportunity for a new gun, video, outfit, book, antique watch, gun rig, bandana, the options seem endless! Have a fantastic season and get ready to start the New Year shooting.
