Volume 1, OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 1999 - Our Premier Issue!
Howdy Folks! This is an exciting time for us at Shoot! Magazine. Throughout this magazine, you will see references made to Western-Action Shooting. This term is intended to be a generic term encompassing shooting sports associated with the Old West and their related activities such as events, trappings, clothes, leather, guns, and gear. Shoot! Magazine will cover Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS, copyright by the Single Action Shooting Society SASS) activities, the National Congress of Old West Shootists (NCOWS), Black Powder Cartridge Silhouette, Cowboy Sporting Clays, mounted shooting, buffalo hunts, hunting with traditional firearms, fast draw, and other shooting sports pertaining to the Old West that use firearms and replicas designed prior to 1898.
Equally important as the national SASS, (events are the non-SASS) or NCOWS affiliated eventsthe people that aren't historically correct yetbut enjoy Western-Action shooting. Values taught by our forefathers, honor, the spirit of the game, the camaraderie that sewed the ties of the 1800's are all important and make me proud to be a cowboy shooter.
You'll feel the Shoot! Magazine theme here just as I am sure you have on the range and at the events where we gather. It's the "Spirit of the Game." I'm sure you're familiar with all the clichés like "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game." Well, that's what we're here to talk about, as well as the fun involved in all the Western-Action shooting sports. We will be sure to bring you highlights of local clubs, ordinary people enjoying shooting on the range, pre-1898 guns and the latest replicas, Western gear, and much more. We will combine all these aspects with articles from various writers from local clubs throughout the country, features on custom craftsmen, humorous events, and great tales of yesteryear.
This magazine is written for and by Western-Action shooters of all types. We want to give the much-deserved credit to the shooting, the camaraderie, the stories, clothes, and guns. We hope to make Shoot! Magazine your shooting magazine of choice. Drop us a line and tell us what you want to read about. Do you want more photos of gear and guns? Are you more interested in women and youngsters in these events? Let us know. Play safe and follow the basic rules for shooting sports, and while you're out there on the range rememberhave fun. Keep your powder dry, Pardner, and I'll see ya' on the range!
