Continued) These things are happening!
Let's take this a step farther. Assume for a moment that
your local radio station has come out for a look, or maybe even a
newspaper, or TV representative. What if they were to see this
exhibition of bad behavior. I wonder if a thought such as this
might run through their mind; "Gee, I don't want to be around
people like that, especially when they have a loaded gun in their
hand."
Please remember that every time we go to an event we
must be on our best behavior. We, each and every one of us,
are representatives of not only a great sport but of the morals and
ethics of an older time, those that believe in the Second Amendment,
and the right to use our firearms and enjoy such shooting sports as
this. If we turn people away, we are doing a disservice to
ourselves, our friends, and this sport. We cannot let that
happen!
On another note, I have observed that most big annual
matches and many monthly matches today are set up so the stages are
fast and not too complicated, though I have shot a few scenarios
that are quite complicated. This is probably good most of the
time. However, I have also seen an occasional stage that was
slower with a variety of fun aspects brought to the stage like
throwing a rope, a knife, getting the hanging man off the rope,
branding the steer, or picking up the gold on the clock, or even a
smaller, hard to hit target. I would like to challenge you all
to bring more fun back into the sport. How do we get posse
members to laugh and enjoy themselves, even when they shoot a stage
poorly?
