My intention has always been to keep this
magazine and it's editorials removed from political debate and
influence. However, this year is probably the most
important voting year ever in regards to protecting our rights
under the Second Amendment and allowing us to keep our
guns. Don't be fooled! Smooth words and passionate
rhetoric based on recent shootings will not change the fact that
guns are inanimate objects, and are not evil. I do not
believe new laws that erode our Second Amendment rights are the
answer.
Maybe you feel as I do: Next year, I don't want to miss
even one shoot, and I don't want to have to get a special pass
from any state's Attorney General's Office to allow me to travel
to a shoot with my guns. Each person I meet at a shoot
becomes a new friend I want to see again. The people that
I have not met in person, but converse with by hone and e-mail
in producing this magazine, are all considered friends I want to
visit with. I want my grandchildren to grow up involved in
this sport, and to learn the morals, responsibility,
companionship, and fun that it entails. I therefore
encourage all eligible voters to vote this year to protect our
Second Amendment. While you're at it, encourage others to
vote as well.
I want to continue to hear the sound of spurs a jingling,
and the smell of gun smoke and leather. The joy of
friendship and laughter as the posses gather with the sun
shining down on a perfect day for shooting is something I don't
intend to miss. Naturally, strolling down vendor row and
checking out all of the colorful clothes and guns of yesteryear
is a part of every big event. Do I want to give these up
for a misguided section of the populace that wish to deny me
these pleasures and companionships? NO!
I suggest that each of you take the time to research
every person who is running for office this year, both at the
local and federal levels. Political party affiliation
should not necessarily be the most important criteria for
selection. Rather, their position on gun control should be
the primary consideration.
