(Editorial
Continued) Top shooters promote this sport.
Equipment manufacturers, whom we need to provide our
"toys," need top shooters to promote their products.
Top shooters, such as Evil Roy, San Juan, and Tequila,
provide shooting schools open to any of us.
They allow us to learn techniques in a short amount of time
that can improve our skills, skills that have taken them hours and
hours of trial and error to perfect.
In addition to techniques, they recommend what types of
equipment will function the best, for whatever level of shooting you
desire.
Though
I will never achieve the same level as the top shooters, it makes me
feel good, on the rare occasion, when I clean a match or end up in
the top 10 to 15 percent. My
objective is still to have fun.
Many times I will poke fun at myself or harass my shooting
partners while we compete, after all, we are there to have fun and
enjoy our sport and each other.
Does
this editorial disagree with my September/October editorial on
shooting low power loads, especially low power black powder loads?
No. You can still be a gamer and adhere with the "spirit of the
game" and shoot the lower recoil calibers with full black powder,
and medium to low smokeless powder loads.
Bottom
line. The top shooters
set the bar for excellence in this sport and are constantly raising
it. In many cases
it's the new and younger shooters who are raising it. That represents growth and the future of our sport.
We need to grow or our sport may cease to exist.
