Gamers, who needs them? Well, let's think about that.
First of all, what is a "gamer?"
They seem to be shooters who take the competition seriously,
and ALWAYS try to win. You
see them planning their strategy in detail before each stage.
They are soooo serious.
They don't seem to be shooting just for fun, like you and
me. They must practice
every day in order to shoot so well.
And they shoot those "wimp" loads, .38 special, .32
H&R, and .32-20 (oh, I shoot those sometimes too!)
Bottom line, they always shoot better than us.
So, a gamer must be a top shooter.
Since
this sport is designed for having fun, do we really need them?
I say, "Yes, we do!"
We
constantly say that this sport is about having fun.
I have fun every time I shoot, don't you?
So, what is the problem?
There is constant discussion about new classes, with the
obvious objective being to separate the top shooters from the rest
of us. What is wrong
with having top shooters in our classes?
Top
shooters have shown us that the firearms of old, in the hands of
experts, can compete with modern firearms.
The advantage of modern firearms is that they reduce the
amount of skill and practice required for their use.
When you see a top shooter in action, it is like seeing a
real live "gunslinger" of the past. Their actions are smooth and deliberate, and they hit the
targets consistently.
Who
are you going to learn more from - your buddy who shoots at the
same level as you, or a top shooter who has spent a considerable
amount of time and energy developing and mastering techniques?
Techniques that you get to take advantage of too.
Think
about the sport of golf. There
are the everyday, fun loving golfers, and then there are the PGA
professionals. Can an
average Joe or Jane sign up for a PGA Masters tournament and play
alongside the professionals? Heck
no. But in our sport,
you have every opportunity to do just that. Editorial
